One of the most encouraging aspects of the NHFC has been its consistent commitment to transformation and developmental impact. During my tenure as Chairperson, I had the opportunity to observe the dedication of Board members, management and staff who worked with a strong sense of purpose to broaden access to affordable housing finance.
The good news story is not limited to one project or transaction. It lies in the collective contribution of an institution that has, over many years, helped strengthen the affordable housing sector, support housing delivery partners and create opportunities for households that might otherwise have remained outside the formal housing market.
The NHFC’s 30-year journey demonstrates that a development finance institution can remain financially responsible while continuing to pursue an important social mission. Its work has contributed to building stronger institutions, supporting transformation and helping many South Africans move closer to the dignity and security that comes with a decent home.
